Scots Lidl customer horrified by shopper's 'criminal behaviour' with croissant at checkout

A Scottish Lidl shopper has gone viral after people were left horrified that he placed a bare croissant directly on the checkout till.

Jamie Rodden, 30, was doing his weekly shop in his local supermarket in Whitburn, West Lothian, and was stunned to see the "criminal behaviour" from the fellow customer.

The man had placed his croissant directly on the conveyor belt without a bag - alongside a packet of microwave rice and an unwrapped cookie balanced on top.

Jamie, who posted a snap of the strange incident on Twitter, said shoppers gave the man "dodgy looks" - as social media users branded him 'crazy' for not worrying about germs during the pandemic.

He told the Record: "I saw the guy didn't use a bag.

"A few other shoppers gave him dodgy looks but didn't say anything".

The student, who recently graduated from City of Glasgow College, posted the photo on Twitter and wrote: "Can't stop thinking about this absolutely criminal behaviour in Whitburn Lidl".

The tweet went viral and racked up more than 142,000 likes as people branded the shopper a "cave man".

Some said his actions had "ruined" their day - and one person went even further to suggest that "this is why we got a pandemic".

Others point out that the conveyor belt may never have been cleaned.

One person tweeted: " IT'S A PANDEMIC and he's slapping his all butter croissant on the checkout like this."

Another wrote:"No bags just germs and vibes."

Someone else wrote: "Is it because NHS is free or what? What is this behaviour?"

While another tweeted: "It's the balancing of the cookie for me. Honestly one of the funniest things ever."

And another commented: "May as well just lick the conveyor belt."
