Scots left divided by Scot Squad star's Scottish scran pic of chips

Scot Squad star Darren Connell has divided Scots - with a scran pic posted on his Twitter page.

The actor, who plays Bobby Muir in the hit comedy show, asked his followers what they called a roll filled with chips.

And he anticipated the impending good humoured arguing, captioning the picture: "Time for chaos lmao. What do you call this?! Comments below ahhhh."

The post sparked a flurry of comments from fans the length and breadth of Scotland - revealing the differing terms used to describe it in their corner of the country.

Actress Karen Bartke, who completes Connell's on-screen double act with her portrayal of Officer Karen, revealed she calls it, 'a roll and chips'.

But others said they call it 'a chip roll' or 'chip butty', while Scots Squad creator Joe Hullait joked it was 'dinner'.

And other users bantered with each other, finding unusual and fancy ways to describe the snack, from 'spud hoagie' and 'fries panini' to 'chip buddy' and "MacChipper'.

While one joker called it 'deep fried root veg cushioned between two pillows of golden wheat pieces', and another said it was 'a luxurious soft white bap filled with the finest fluffy soft sliced potatoes'.

And Connell had fans in stitches, later joking he actually "couldn't give a f***" what other people called the snack.
