Scots lawyer struck off decade after overcharging clients £200k

A lawyer who overcharged clients by £200,000 has been struck off – more than a decade after his cheating was exposed.

William Murnin was branded a “disgrace to the profession” after being found guilty of professional misconduct.

In a judgment, the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal said there was “no justification for the exorbitant fees”.

Murnin was cashroom partner at Murnin McCluskey in Greenock.

Colleagues raised concerns in 2010 and accountants found that 13 clients had been overcharged by more than £200,000 in total.
