Scots lad comes a cropper and crashes into river after log crossing fail

A Glasgow man has been given a proper soaking after falling into a river during a log crossing stunt.

Dermot Maguire had been exploring Linn Park with his flatmate Daniel Scally on Thursday afternoon when they stumbled across the two branches hanging over the River Cart.

Daniel dared Dermot to cross from branch to branch to liven up their daily lockdown walk.

The 20-year-old bravely shifted his weight onto one of the branches to make the crossing before it collapsed into the water below.

A Twitter video, which has since gone viral, shows a drenched Dermot scampering out of the water after his unfortunate fall.

The security worker told the Daily Record : “We were just jumping about the park when we thought it was a good idea to cross between the branches.

“I thought it was going to be a lot easier - It just came as a complete shock when the branch broke on the second step. Daniel was absolutely screaming.

“Luckily I was only a 10 to 15 minute trip away from home because I was absolutely stinking. My clothes have been lying in the garage since.”

Dermot posted the hilarious clip on his own Twitter account to show his escapades off to his pals.

He was given a huge shock when it was shared by more than five and a half thousand people on the social media website.

“I didn’t even know he was filming it at the time”, Dermot said.

“I just stuck it on there to give my pals a laugh, so I was amazed when tens of thousands of folk started liking it. I had to put my phone on do not disturb because of the amount of notifications I was getting.”
