Scots kids go all out to celebrate World Book Day in lockdown

A national lockdown and global pandemic wasn't enough to stop Scots children enjoying one of the best loves days in the educational calendar.

Now a staple of the spring events, World Book Day threatened to be a non-starter this year with more than half of the nationals primary-school children still home-learning.

However thanks to plucky youngsters and their encouraging parents, some schools were still able to welcome children in the fancy dress costumes of their favourite book characters.

We asked parents and carers to send in images of their little ones dressed up or enjoying World Book day in their own way and the response was fantastic.

There was some very recognisable characters in the mix, including Cruelle De Vil, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Batman, Mary Poppins and the Cat in the hat to name a few.
