Scots junior footballer joins Gascoigne, Ronaldo and Bergkamp on list of world football's greatest hat tricks

Ronaldo, Bale, Bergkamp, Gascoigne , Rivaldo ... and Hanlon.

A junior footballer from Glasgow has been included alongside some of the biggest names in world football on a list of the greatest hat tricks of all time.

Tam Hanlon's treble for Pollok in a 5-1 thumping against Neilston three years ago ripped the roof off Newlandsfield in the west region Sectional League Cup.

And it also rocketed the veteran full back into the national glare as his goals were featured on Sky Sport's Soccer AM.

Now Hanlon's hat trick of howitzers have been recognised in FourFourTwo magazine's compilation of the 15 best trebles of all time.

And he joked: "Easy for a wee guy from the east end of Glesga!"

The defender - now at St Roch's - comes in at number 13 ahead of former Manchester United hitman Dimitar Berbatov whose treble against Liverpool nine years ago sent shockwaves through English football.

One spot above Hanlon is Ronaldo - the Brazilian one - for his hat trick for Barcelona against Valencia in 1996.

Wayne Rooney (Man United versus Fenerbahce in 2004), Paul Gascoigne ( Rangers against Aberdeen in 1996) and Gareth Bale for Tottenham against Inter in 2010 are also on the list.

But top spot goes to Brazil superstar Rivaldo for his stunning Barcelona treble against Valencia in 2001.

But Hanlon is the only non professional on the list. Although we're sure you'd agree his incredible treble at Newlandsfield is more than worthy of its place in the best-ever list.

Speaking at the time of his man-of-the-match show, Hanlon said: “I got a phone call from one of my friends saying that my goals from midweek has just been shown on Sky and I thought he was at the wind up.

"It wasn’t until I arrived in the dressing room our centre half Ross McCabe had it on his phone and all the boys were watching it.

"I felt a bit embarrassed to be honest but it’s not everyday a junior players’ goals are showed on Soccer AM so I’m going to enjoy the moment.”
