Scots joke about the games they would play in a Scottish version of Netflix smash Squid Game

Scots have joked about the games they would like to see if Squid Game was set in Scotland.

The Korean thriller sees a group of desperate contestants compete against each other in a series of children’s playground games in a bid to win a prize of almost £30 million.

But the games have a deadly catch, as losing them could see participants lose their life in the ultra-violent series.

The nine-episode show has become a smash hit across the globe and currently sits at the top of the most viewed TV programmes on Netflix in the UK.

And while the premise of the show is serious and gory in nature, it hasn’t stopped Scots having a good laugh with it.

One viral tweet asked users to have a stab at what games contestants would play if it were to happen in your country.

“If Squid Game was being played in the country you live in, what games do you think you’d have to play?” It read.

Thousands of people across the world got involved with the post - and a good handful of Scots joined in on the fun.

Games suggested included post-school day favourites such ‘cuppy doubles’, ‘kirby’ and ‘chappy’

One said: “Musical chairs and hide and seek would be absolutely insane.”

Another wrote: “Could you imagine the tension of Heads Down, Thumbs Up omg.”

A third joked: “The feeling of someone catching your ball in rounders was worse than death, so I’d happily be shot for it.”

Netflix say that Squid Game has a “very good chance” of becoming it’s biggest show ever, which would see it overtake Bridgerton.

Around 82 million subscribers tuned into Bridgerton for at least two minutes during its first 28 days after release.

Speaking about the success of Squid Game, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said: “We did not see that coming, in terms of its global popularity."
