Scots insect bakery boss slapped with seven year business ban over missing £86,000 from accounts

The boss of a bakery which made desserts from insects has been banned from running a firm over £86,000 missing from accounts.

Cyril Barthelme hit the headlines when he revealed he was using ingredients such as scorpions, crickets and tarantulas at Patisserie Maxime in Edinburgh.

Now the 31-year-old has been banned from being a director for seven years after liquidators were unable to determine what happened to fixed assets of £86,457, recorded before the firm went bust last year.

He resigned as a director in January last year and liquidators were appointed two months later.

Barthelme was linked to nine firms at Companies House but has resigned from them all.

He could not be contacted for comment.
