Scots Indian restaurant unveils spicy AARDVARK pizza

A restaurant reckons it has come up with a snout-standing dish as it becomes the first in Scotland to serve up aardvark – in the form of a pizza.

Indian Accent in Kilmarnock has a menu that features meat from the nocturnal mammal native to Africa.

The spicy aardvark pizza – which sells for between £6.50 and £11.50 – comes complete with green chillies, chicken and lamb mince.

The head chef at the restaurant says he aims to bring unique flavours to the people of Kilmarnock.

Anser Anton, 43, said the ingredient was pretty rare: “I wanted to do this because it’s something different and unique.

“We could be the first in Scotland with an aardvark pizza, I’m not sure. It’s certainly pretty rare.”

Aardvark meat is growing in popularity in the US. More restaurants are stocking the meat, which one person described as “dense, low in carb, and tangy, with a hint of watermelon”.

Anser, who was born in India and comes from a family of chefs and bakers, also spent time cooking in Dubai.

He said: “I was born in the south of India in a region called Kerala. All of the big spices and flavours are in that area and I always try to show that in my cooking. I want to give something back to the community in the cooking that I do.

“I’ve lived here most of my life, and I’ll probably die here, too, and this means a lot to me.”
