Scots in Spain told 'return home now' as Government orders mass hotel shut down

Scots holidaymakers in Spain are being urged to return home as soon as possible after hotels were ordered to shut down.

The Foreign Office is urging travellers to return to the UK after the Spanish Government ordered mass closures to happen on Tuesday, March 24.

Tourists are being advised to contact their travel operator or airline to arrange their return journeys while Spanish authorities attempted to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak.

A statement from the Foreign Office said: “The Spanish government have confirmed that all hotels will close in Spain from Tuesday 24 March.

“We therefore advise British travellers in Spain to contact their tour operators or airline as soon as possible, to arrange their return journey home before this date.”

As well as hotels, short-stay accommodation including caravan parks will also be forced to close their doors.

Spain declared a State of Emergency on March 14 as the country battled to get to grips with the Coronavirus outbreak.

More than 550 people have died from COVID-19 while more than 13,700 have tested positive for the virus prompting strict restrictions on movement in the country.

The UK Government this week announced that they are advising against all but essential international travel.
