Irvine Vics’ South Challenge Cup tie against Vale of Leven this weekend is set to be a family affair as striker Shane Jackson goes to battle against his identical twin brother, defender Chris.
The siblings are poised for a crunch head-to-head battle at Victoria Park that could ultimately decide which team progresses to the third round of the competition.
Vics boss Dougie MacDuff is expecting an enthralling battle having managed the pair while in charge at Hillwood BC U21s a decade ago.
And he joked: “I won’t say who was the better player - Saturday can decide who gets the Jackson bragging rights.
“At least they will be in different teams so I should be able to tell them apart. I had to rely on the colour of their trainers the last time!”
Both Vics and Vale of Leven have struggled for form this season and lie in the bottom half of their respective West of Scotland League conferences.

MacDuff is expecting a tough afternoon and reckons the tie is in the balance.
But he insisted: “If we go into the game with the right attitude and play to our capabilities then we’ve got a good chance of going through.”
