Scots husband and wife team set up Coronaoke Facebook group during lockdown

A husband and wife team from Glasgow have set up Facebook group to lift spirits and provide entertainment to people in the community during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Brian and Carole-Ann Yuill launched Caronaoke Nations Number 1 just over two weeks ago before the news of lockdown was announced and have since seen the page grow to over 14,500 members.

The couple were helped by friend Bryan Kennedy who they say has been instrumental in providing daily entertainment and helping grow the group.

A place to provide entertainment and share laughter, it also houses links and resources for those suffering from low mood and loneliness to seek help during the coronavirus pandemic.

Carole-Ann is a health and wellbeing lead for Turning Point Scotland and has a passion for promoting and supporting good mental health.

She said: “I was concerned that during this time, people with mental health issues were not being supported.

“The aim of the group was to set that up to normalise mental health, and we want to hammer home to people that they matter when so many things are out of their control at the moment.”

So far, entertainment in the group has included tribute acts performing via live link, a hypnotist and comedians who have provided their talents for free for members.

Fitness fans can also take part in yoga and exercise sessions through the group led by professional instructors.

The Easter weekend is set to be a busy one for group members.

Brian added: “We’ve got events planned all through the weekend to keep people entertained and active.”

Kids can take part in Easter bonnet competitions; there’ll be a Neil Diamond tribute act performing on Saturday evening followed by a charity auction.

Brian said: “One of my friends is a talented artist. He’s painted pop and rock icons from over the years and we’re going to donate to the Samaritans and film the whole process.”

The couple are thrilled to see people across Scotland supporting each other due this difficult time.
