Scots HS2 tunnel protesters plan to stay underground for the “long haul”

The father of two tunnel protesters fighting to halt high-speed train plans has revealed they intend to stay underground for the “long haul”.

Roc Sandford, laird of Gometra in the Hebrides, is in regular contact with his daughter Blue, 18, and son Lazer, 20, who are burrowed deep in protest tunnels at HS2’s London development site.

Speaking as the protest entered its seventh day yesterday, he said his children and their fellow tunnellers are “doing well” and “settling in for the long haul” in their bid to disrupt the “high-carbon vanity project”.

A High Court judge has rejected a call on behalf of the environmental activists to halt efforts to evict the protesters.
