Scots house torched in deliberate attack with young kid inside

A hunt has been launched for thugs who torched a house in a rural Scots village with a young child inside.

Cops say that the late night fire in Caldercruix, near Airdrie in North Lanarkshire, was 'wilful' and have appealed for information.

Emergency services rushed to the deliberate blaze in the village's Main Street at around 11.30pm.

Everyone inside was rescued and nobody suffered any injuries from the horror.

Detective Sergeant Gary Smillie, of Airdrie CID, branded the attack 'extemely reckless'.

He said: “There were people in the house at the time, including a young child. Fortunately no one was injured.

"This was an extremely reckless act and has left the occupants extremely distressed as well as causing damage to the property.

“We are eager to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious before and after the incident. No matter how small, please get in touch as it could help with our investigation.

“In particular we would like people to check any private CCTV they might have or dash-cam footage that may provide details that could help.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Airdrie CID on 101, quoting incident 0004 of Tuesday, 3 November, 2020, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11.”
