Scots homes evacuated on Christmas morning over gas fears following fire

Scots homes were evacuated earlier today over fears a Christmas morning fire could spread to nearby gas pipes.

Emergency services were called to Haugh Street, Falkirk, shortly after 8am this morning after reports of a bin fire.

Residents were forced to flee their homes over fears the fire might spread to equipment connected to the gas supply.

Two fire engines and a number of police cars are at the scene.

Pictures shared on social media show yellow hazard tape attaching across the street.

It’s not know if anyone has been injured, or when residents will be allowed back in their homes.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Operations Control mobilised two appliances to Haugh Street, Falkirk at around 8am after reports of a bin fire.

“We currently working with our emergency service partners and Scottish Gas Networks.

“Occupied properties have been evacuated.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called at around 8:30am by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“Officers remain at the scene.”
