Scots hillwalker rescued by dogs after getting lost on mountain in thick fog

A Scots hillwalker who got lost on a mountain in thick fog has been recovered thanks to rescue dogs.

A major operation was launched last night after the rambler became disorientated while descending Am Faochagach, in the north west Highlands.

Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team received a call at around 9pm from Police Scotland reporting the walker had got lost amid the poor visbility.

The team of 18 rescuers including dog handlers were then mobilised to search for the missing party.

However, it wasn't until 00.40 the walker was located by search and rescue dog pairing Alison and Meg.

The casualty was then assessed and warmed up before being escorted back to the carpark at Torran Dubh.

Writing about the incident, Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team said: "Full team callout last night for a disoriented hillwalker coming off Am Faochagach north of Loch Glascarnoch.

"The team were alerted at around 9pm by Police Scotland of a person who had become disoriented in thick fog around the north west side of Loch Glascarnoch.

"18 members including our two SARDA dog handlers rendezvoused at a very fog bound Torran Dubh car park and were quickly deployed out into various search areas.

"At around 00.40 the mister was located by SARDA pairing Alison and Meg, followed by one of the teams hill parties.

"With strict COVID protocols in place the casualty was assessed warmed up and escorted back to the carpark at Torran Dubh.

"All hills parties back off the hill by 02.00.

"Thanks to all for a great response and a successful outcome."
