Scots groom in pink tutu and drunken pals go on violent street attack in 'stag do from hell'

Drunken yobs on a stag do – including a groom-to-be clad in a pink tutu – went on the rampage, attacking several strangers in the street.

The four pals left behind a trail of victims during the incident which a sheriff branded “mayhem” and “ridiculous violence for no reason”.

Steven Stewart, 30, was celebrating his upcoming wedding with the night out in Edinburgh and wore the frilly dress as part of the hijinks.

Friend Colin Sturrock, 26, was dressed as a native American and they were joined by David Riley, 29, and Dillon Stevens, 22.

Four men were assaulted by members of the group in the city’s busy Lothian Road area, with one victim suffering a broken leg.

Stewart, Sturrock, Riley and Stevens appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday to admit the attacks last June 24.

A solicitor for Stewart described it as a “stag do gone wrong” and said his client “regrets bitterly what happened”. But the thugs posed for a photo in the court building at a previous appearance, smiling and giving thumbs-up signs.

The court heard how the foursome were in Lothian Road at about 1.30am.

They carried out a number of attacks and their victims included Aaron Martin, Andrew Hill, Matthew Griffiths and Jordan McCoy.

Matthew was later found to have suffered a fractured lower leg, possibly after falling while being pursued.

Sheriff Adrian Cottam fined Stewart, of Livingston, a total of £340.

Stevens, of Kirknewton, West Lothian, was ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work and fined £300. Riley, of Wester Hailes, Edinburgh, was given 70 hours of unpaid work and Sturrock, from Livingston, received a £400 fine.
