Scots grandmother doesn't let lockdown get in way of 100th birthday celebrations

Janet McSherry will have overcome a lot in her 100 years so she wasn’t going to let lockdown get in the way of toasting her birthday.

Nettie, as she’s affectionately known, had ‘ socially distanced ’ cake with other residents in the sun room at Erskine Park Home in Bishopton, Renfrewshire as she read her birthday card from the Queen.

And to top it off, daughter Janette McGee and son William McSherry with grand daughters Tracy Anderson and Janet Sloan shared a drink with her through the window.

Nettie, from Erskine, whose late husband served with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, moved into Erskine Park Home in November 2019, also enjoyed a bagpiper which was specially arranged.

A spokeswoman for the home said Nettie’s birthday was extra special.

She is also their first ever resident to turn 100.
