A Scots gran who discovered a 49-year-old receipt from her wedding day reveals the bash cost her just £140.75.
Janet Houston Daniels, 76, stumbled across the slip while browsing through her wedding album on Monday.
She was stunned at the bargain price for the reception at the Tudor Hotel in Airdrie which included meals for 90 guests.
Janet married husband Graham Daniels on 30 September 1972 and the couple were married until 1998 when Graham sadly passed away.
The mum-of-two and grandmother-of-three has fond memories of the day, which she says was well worth the money.
In today’s sums, Janet and Graham’s wedding would cost them £1,902.60.
It’s still a snip considering that in 2018, the Scottish Wedding Directory put the average price of nuptials at £35,674.
But Janet says the sum was not an insignificant amount at the time.
She said: “It's hard to believe. I suppose that was quite a lot then, everyone wanted the Tudor Hotel.
“Everything was perfect.
“My husband came from Bath and we had a coach load of family and friends up for the wedding who talked about it for years.
“Best wedding they had ever been to.”
The receipt shows that Janet’s parents, who footed the bill, managed to secure the wedding for a £3 deposit.
Included in the total price was the wedding breakfast at £1.05 a meal, jugs of orange juice for £3, and £2.50 for the flowers.
While 90 glasses of fizz for the toast came in at £18, costing just 20p each.
Janet added: "20p for the toasts is unbelievable, and tea and biscuits at half time, so funny. Imagine that now."
Janet decided to share the receipt in a Coatbridge Facebook group, where it has also stunned social media users.
One woman wrote: “Amazing, my daughters wedding cake two years ago cost more than the whole reception.”
Another added: “I love the price on everything.”
And one person said: “Brilliant - still think you were overcharged!”
