Scots girls battered by older thugs in horrific Edinburgh park attack

A group of Scots schoolgirls have been left with "sickening facial injuries" following a brutal attack by an older gang.

The girls were in The Meadows park in Edinburgh when the thugs set upon them last night.

According to one victim's mother, a gang of ten teens filmed the sickening attack before robbing the girls of their jewellery.

She says the three youngsters were subjected to a "violent and unprovoked" attack which has left them "traumatised beyond comprehension".

Writing on Facebook about the ordeal, the mum explained how her daughter was at the Meadows when she received a hysterical phone call from a nearby friend.

The mother explained: "Seconds after finding her friend, a violent and unprovoked attacked from a large group of older girls took place.

"My daughter did not realise this was the continuation of an attack that had minutes earlier taken place on her friend and her cousin.

"My daughter and her friend were both punched to the ground.

"My daughter was then set upon by up to 10 girls.

"She was kicked in the side of the head and all over her body as she lay stunned and motionless on the ground. The girls have been left with sickening facial injuries and also suffered the theft of their jewellery."

She says the horrific ordeal only ended when a passerby intervened.

The incident came as large crowds descended on the park yesterday afternoon and had to be dispersed by cops.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report around 8pm on Saturday, 21 March relating to three teenage girls assaulted at the Meadows in Edinburgh.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 3698 of 20 March."
