Scots gear up for 'blanket of snow' as weather warning issued across the country

Snow is expected to blanket much of Scotland later today after a weather warning was issued across the country.

Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Inverness and Aberdeen are among the areas affected by a yellow weather warning - which has been issued from 6pm today (Wednesday) until 4pm on Thursday.

Much of the north has already been battered by snow after a warning was issued on Tuesday.

The yellow weather warning has been issued for most of Scotland (Met Office)

Temperatures are set to plummet to below freezing overnight and could reach as low as -10C in the glens.

Snow will arrive from the north later today, moving south through Thursday morning.

The yellow warning means some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train.

Some higher routes across Scotland may also briefly become impassable early on Thursday morning, according to the Met Office.
