Scots garden centre apologises for 'cocaine curry' social media joke

A Scots garden centre that made a drug-related joke about their "addictive" chicken curry has been forced to apologise.

Threaplands Garden Centre in Elgin sparked outrage online when they posted a photo of the dish on Facebook. Alongside the image the eatery advertised their "cocaine curry" adding the chef must "sprinkle something addictive" in the food.

As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, the post has now been amended due to the volume of angry feedback from customers who didn't appreciate a joke about Class A drugs. The garden centre staff also joked they intended to type "coconut curry", blaming predictive text.

In the original post, the garden centre said: "Cocaine curry? I'm pretty sure the kitchen must sprinkle something addictive in our curry because I can't get enough of it! Today looks like a day for a hearty meal. Take a trip to Threaplands and try our 'cocaine curry' for yourself."

Angry comments quickly flooded in, as one person said: "Seriously bad choice of words," while another added that it was "extremely unprofessional" of the local business.

Another social media user said: "I love a good funny post but that was pretty close to the bone and I just knew as soon as I read that reference you made all hell was gonna break loose."

Others, however, were left amused by the post, praising the staff for not taking things too seriously and having a bit of a laugh. One person joked: "You should try the mushroom soup...... it's magic!"

"You guys nailed it for getting attention, jeez if people are that upset just scroll past. These comments are hilarious," said another Facebook user.

A third said: "My family has been ripped apart and lives destroyed by drugs, but you know what I still find this post lighthearted and funny. There's too much seriousness and negativity in this world. Life is for living, stop picking negative spots just enjoy it and be happy and maybe even treat yourself to some addictive curry."

The garden centre later said: "Marmite - Different posts for different folks. Would you believe me? It was predictive text, 'coconut' curry?

"We love humour, sometimes close to the line but apologies, stepped over the line today, no offence was meant and it brought equal parts joy as it did upset.

"Thought process - miserable day, ooo, curry, it’s addictive, what else is addictive? End of, no more thought given, poking fun at me for being addicted to it. 'Lettuce' know how you like your Facebook."
