Scots garage owner dies after bust-up with neighbour in Inverness

A man aged 65 has been arrested after a 55-year-old garage owner died following a bust-up with a neighbour.

It is understood that John Birrell, of Blackpark House, Inverness, died after an argument with a neighbour.

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 6pm on August 17, police were called to Blackpark, Inverness, following a report of an altercation between two men.

“Emergency services attended and a 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The man who died can now be named as John Birrell and his relatives are aware.

“A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

“A 65-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death.”

The arrested man is understood to be a retired eye surgeon from the London area.

Neighbours said he and his wife were originally from Aberdeenshire.
