A Scots gang member has been jailed after admitting his involvement with a ‘top-tier’ crime group responsible for a massive haul of weapons and drugs.
Hugh McHugh appeared at the High Court in Paisley for sentencing on Friday, July 9, after previously admitting being involved in serious organised crime and drugs offences.
The 43-year-old now joins three other gang members behind bars after they were earlier caged following a major probe by Police Scotland.
Between March and June 2020, Operation Gadget uncovered large amounts of cocaine, heroin and Etizolam worth in the region of £220,000 which belonged to the gang.
Firearms including revolvers, shotguns, ammunition and grenades were also recovered.
An industrial pill press and hundreds of thousands of ‘street Valium’ tablets were found at a plant haulage and salvage yard in the Johnstone area.
Police Scotland have welcomed the sentencing of McHugh who was also slapped with a Serious Crime Prevention Order.
Detective Superintendent David Scott, of Greater Glasgow Division CID, said: “McHugh was a member of one of Scotland's top-tier organised crime groups.
“I welcome his conviction and sentencing as disrupting the activities of these criminals remains a priority for our officers and underlines our commitment to the country’s Serious Organised Crime Taskforce.”
Three of McHugh's accomplices, David Hough, James Dalziel and Eric Morrison junior, have already been sentenced to a total of more than eleven years in prison.
