Scots gamer wins £50k at Fortnite World Cup in US

A Scots gamer flew home nearly £50,000 richer after competing in the Fortnite World Cup in America.

Stuart Smith, from East Kilbride, and his team Sunshine Soldiers finished seventh on the first day of the three-day contest, which saw 100 players battle it out on giant computer screens for the chance to win a fortune.

Sixteen-year-old Kyle Giersdorf, from the US, won the solo event in New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium, landing $3million.

Jaden Ashman, a 15-year-old from Essex, won almost £1million for coming second in the duos.

Stuart, 20, who plays the cult computer game up to 10 hours a day, said: “I’m just going to hold on to the money for now and not do anything crazy.”
