Scots footie fans 'at more risk of terror attack' due to covid passport rules

Covid passport rules could lead to an increased risk of Scots football fans being targeted by carjack terrorists, it's been claimed.

An SFA stadium safety officer has said that terrorists in cars have more chance of ploughing into crowds of fans outside stadia as jab certificates are checked.

The brutal form of attack has become more popular in recent years with the horrific Nice lorry attack killing 87 people in France in 2016.

The Times reports on jag passport concerns outlined by rugby chiefs including turnstile crushes due to late arrivals and increased stewarding costs.

It’s also feared that supporters huddled together outside stadiums in close quarters are more likely to spread Covid.

SFA chief Ian Maxwell forwarded on a letter sent to government ministers by the Scottish Rugby Union to the safety officer - who then raised the terror threat fears.

The officer said turnstile delays “also potentially increases risk of creating a crowded place and the risk of a terror attack eg vehicle as a weapon into a crowded place as they wait to enter”.

Nicola Sturgeon could be set to extend vaccine passports to more venues across Scotland with Covid cases still high.

Last week, we told of fears that Scots will throw house parties if an extension of the covid vaccine passport scheme puts them off visiting pubs or restaurants.

Licensed trade representatives told a Scottish Parliament committee today that many businesses won't survive the winter if ministers push ahead with proposals to make proof of vaccination a condition of entry.

Nicola Sturgeon said this week that plans were being considered which could see the controversial passport scheme being extended to cinemas, theatres and other hospitality venues.
