Scots football boss who suffered heart attack on Zoom call with players set for dugout return

Irvine Vics boss Brian McLuckie is set to return to the dugout tonight just four months after suffering a heart attack in the middle of a Zoom fitness session with his players.

The 53-year-old needed a life-saving operation back in February after falling seriously ill at his laptop.

But he has surprised both himself and doctors by making a speedy recovery and feels well enough to once again tread the touchline.

He will be back in the dugout for the first time since his ordeal this evening when Vics kick off their pre-season campaign away to Johnstone Burgh.

McLuckie said: "I'm due back at the hospital for more tests soon but things have been going well.

"I'll be playing seven-a-sides on Friday night and physically I feel good.

"I'm trying not to think too much about being back in the dugout but like everyone else I'm looking forward to getting back to football."

Vics go into tonight's friendly with just a few weeks of training under their belt.

And McLuckie admitted: "We've not managed to get any real game practice in, it's been more drills-based sessions and strength work.

"But the boys are keen to get back at it."

Tonight's game at Keanie Park, Johnstone, kicks off at 7.15pm and supporters are welcome in line with latest coronavirus guidelines.
