A hammer wielding thug smashed up a Glasgow florist in a "mindless and malicious" attack while staff were working on Christmas orders.
Floral Haven boss Shaheen Khan has told of the horrifying moment the brute struck at the Pollokshields shop as her and terrified staff screamed while the man smashed windows and doors before fleeing the scene.
The team heard banging and the sound of glass shattering at around 8.30pm on Tuesday night while they were working late fulfilling Christmas orders, reports Glasgow Live.
Shaheen said: "He repeatedly smashed each window and door until it broke completely.
"We were terrified – we thought he was going to come inside.
"It was mindless and malicious. I have no idea why they wanted to target a flower shop.
"We sometimes leave the door open for fresh air, but thankfully it was closed. Otherwise he could have done far more damage."
Shaheen said one of the male members of staff ran out to see the man getting into a waiting car, which sped off and ran a red light.
She said Floral Haven has been a much-loved fixture in the local community for 20 years.
"Pollokshields is a nice area. We are well-established and well-respected around here," Shaheen said.
"We have the nicest customers and we've never had any problems. I can't think why someone would do this."
She added: "I just want to get through my orders, carry on as normal and let the police do their job. I'm not letting this put me off. It's a busy time for us and we've got work to do."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.45 pm on Tuesday, 22 December, 2020, the windows of a florist shop in Kidrostan Street, Glasgow were smashed by unknown persons.
“Police enquiries into the incident continue.”
