Scots fitness trainer dies suddenly in Mexico after falling ill on holiday

Tributes have poured in after a popular Scots fitness trainer died suddenly in Mexico.

Alan McVey, 37, became unwell whilst on holiday with partner Alan Aitchison.

Alan, of Blantyre , South Lanarkshire, was struck down with pneumonia and died after a short battle with the infection.

Heartbroken Alan broke the tragic news to friends on Facebook yesterday.

He said: "It is with the heaviest of hearts I'm writing this post. Tragically my beautiful boy Alan McVey has passed away.

"I know that Alan was special to so many people but for me he was my life, my whole world. My soulmate.

"We have started the the funeral arrangements, however because of the circumstances this may take time. Details will follow.

"In the meantime I would be grateful if you could give myself and the family some time to grieve.

"Thank you."

Local Facebook page Blantyre Telegraph paid tribute to the likeable, fun loving Alan.

They posted: "Like many people in Blantyre today, we're deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sad passing of popular local man, Alan McVey.

"He certainly lived life to the full. His likeable, kind nature saw him make many friends in and out with Blantyre.

"He had a great sense of humour, a fun loving nature and people were naturally drawn to him.

"Hard working and clever, he also won many accolades at work, a real rising star.

"Others will know Alan for his passionate hobby in keeping fit and helping others to get fitter too, something that was very important to him.

"A family man at heart, the tragic news has left the community in Blantyre stunned.

"Our deepest sympathies go out to all his family at this sad time. Rest in Peace Alan. You were one of a kind."
