Scots fishing town tops UK highest pass rate for driving tests

Taking your driving test in Peterhead could turbo-boost your chances of passing.

The Aberdeenshire centre has just come joint first for the highest pass rate in the UK.

On average, 63 per cent of learners in the port town and in Kendal, Cumbria, pass their test. Aberdeen also features in the top 10, with a 56 per cent pass rate. The national average is 46 per cent.

And drivers who take the test between 2pm and 3pm on a Sunday have a far higher chance of passing than at any other time of the week.

Researchers examined the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency data for 2019-2020. Learners in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, were parked firmly at the bottom of the pass list, at just 31 per cent.

Erith in south-east London was second-worst, with 32 per cent passing. South Yardley in Birmingham was on 33 per cent and Speke, Liverpool, on 34 per cent.

The data showed that learners in rural areas have a higher pass rate than in cities and large towns.

As for timing, learners did best on Sunday afternoons – scoring a 56 per cent pass rate. Next best was between 4pm and 5pm on either Tuesday or Friday – when 53 per cent passed.

Insurance firm Tempcover analysed the figures. Spokesman Alan Inskip said: “Where and when you take your test
plays a big part. Choosing the right day and time can improve your chances.

“But the most important aspect is to thoroughly prepare.”
