Police are hunting a ‘gaunt’ thief who threatened staff at an Ayr Farmfoods store before making off with £400 in cash.
The suspect walked into the Main Street store at around 6.40pm on Friday, March 26, where he terrorised two workers - leaving them ‘badly shaken’ by the ordeal.
Thankfully, neither were physically injured but the man managed to steal the three-figure sum of cash before off from the scene.
Officers have been scouring CCTV in the local area in a bid to identify the crook who is described as being white and around 5ft 10in tall.
He has a medium build, an unshaven, gaunt appearance and discoloured teeth while also speaking with a local accent.
Witnesses say he was wearing a khaki jacket with a light-coloured fur-trimmed hood and red trainers with white markings.
Enquiries carried out have shown there were customers within the store just prior to the incident and officers are appealing to these people to contact them.
Detective Constable Janet Ferguson said: “This store is popular with the local community and I’m sure people would have seen this man.
“Perhaps you saw him before he entered the story or maybe you saw him leave the premises.
“I would ask you to think back and if you have even a small piece of information, then please do pass it on.
“I would add that additional officers will be on patrol in the area to provide reassurance to the local community. Anyone with concerns can approach these officers.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2935 of 26 March, 2021.
