Scots farmer tells tourists 'poo responsibly' with cheeky sign after dogs find dirty deposits

A Scots farmer has been forced to put up signs asking tourists to ‘poo responsibly’ after her working dogs repeatedly discovered the dirty deposits.

Nicki Wright has seen a huge increase in the numbers of day trippers being caught short by the call of nature on visits to the Highlands over the last year.

She told how climbers visiting the Sgiath Chuil and Meall Glas Munros regularly park at the top of her farm near Crianlarich.

But her working dogs have begun to discover little nuggets they have left behind prompting her to erect the tongue-in-cheek signs around her land.

She said: "I put up the sign in the hope it would deter people - I am not sure it has worked but you have to try to do something.

"We have several working dogs and this leaves us with a real hygiene problem - it's sickening."

The signs show the incorrect way to use the bathroom while outdoors with a cartoon image of a walker squatting in front of a delighted dog.

Instead, tourists are urged to cover their poop with a rock or dig a hole beforehand.

Similar complaints of human waste littering the countryside have also been raised on the West Highland Way backpacking route from Milngavie to Fort William.

Meanwhile, farmers around Balmaha and Drynen have also complained about the mess left behind by ‘wild campers’.

Climbers' group Mountaineering Scotland says human waste in the countryside should be buried or bagged up and carried out for safe disposal.
