Scots farmer on charity drive in honour of late brother crushed by horse in horror accident

A farmer who is driving horses 650 miles to raise charity funds in honour of his late brother is recovering after a horror crushing.

Jamie Alcott, 55, was travelling from his Gloucestershire farm to Elgin in a carriage pulled by Shire horses Willam and Millie to raise cash for Police Care UK and the Fire Fighters Charity.

But the trip was halted when he suffered serious injuries after being crushed by the horses when he unharnessed them during a stopover in Perth last week.

He is being treated at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee after sustaining injuries including 11 broken ribs and hairline fractures in four vertebrae.

Jamie’s brother John was a serving officer with Grampian Police when he was involved in a traffic accident on his way to Balmoral on royal protection duties in August 2003.

He died in 2017 after spending 14 years in a coma.
