Scots farmer makes spooky hay bales for local kids after 'guising ban

A Scots farmer has turned his haybales into spooky surprises for local kids- who can't indulge in 'guising this year.

Coronavirus has ruined the tradition of children dressed in creepy costumes offering a 'trick or treat' at stranger's doors.

But one farmer in Tarland, Aberdeenshire has decided to give local youngsters a bit of fun.

One became a witch (Fubar News)

He has taken the bales and turned one into a green-face witch- complete with hat, broomstick and tufts of 'hair' made from hay pointing out.

The other bale has become a big black spider, with piercing yellow eyes and long dangling legs.

Locals have spotted the bales and said they look forward to 'a Christmas edition'.

One wrote: "Talented Tarland farmers helping to keep a smile on folks faces in these uncertain times well done."

Another added: "Nice one folks looks wonderful keep up the great work and we will look forward to the Xmas edition."

Parents have had mixed reactions to the strict ban on guising.

Deputy First Minister John Swinney said the move was necessary to ensure people stick within the current restrictions on indoor and outdoor gatherings.

Families have instead been encouraged to mark All Hallows Eve in their own homes without the traditional trick-or-treating around neighbouring homes.

Readers had mixed reactions to the news with some supporting the Scottish Government advice while others questioned why their children could go to school every day with limited social distancing but not trick-or-treat on doorsteps.
