The family of a Scots dad diagnosed with terminal cancer are on a mission to buy him his dream car so can take a final road trip across Scotland.
Frank Bammer, known as Jay, has been battling the disease for seven years but he was recently told that his prostate cancer had spread to his spinal cord and is now incurable.
His two devastated sons, Joseph and Christopher, have fond memories of their dad taking them to car shows and fixing their own motors through the years. The boys are desperate to buy Jay, 49, a Lexus and started an "ambitious" fundraiser - raising more than £6,000 within days.
Joseph, from Glasgow, said the fundraiser has lifted his dad's spirits and given him something to look forward to.
The 23-year-old told the Record: "When my dad was younger, the Lexus was a top and the range luxury car. He has never been able to afford one but it is one of his dream cars of all time.
"My dad is massively into cars, and so am I. He got me into them.
"It's a hobby i've shared with my dad and I have so many memories of him taking me to car shows when I was a wee boy.
"When he was first diagnosed around seven years ago he tried every treatment possible. It was all looking good until during the pandemic, when we were told it had spread.
"We recently found it the cancer is now in his spinal cord and all over his body. As hard as it is to say it, it is a matter of how long he has left. There is nothing they can do."
Jay is now at home and on pain medication, with nurses coming in every day. Although he is struggling, the fundraiser has had a positive impact on his mental health.
Jospeh continued: "Just seeing everyone supporting him and donating to the fundraiser is keeping my dad going. It is giving him something to look forward to and it is amazing to see how much it has uplifted him.
"He was so down mentally but we can now see a massive difference. He is still exhausted and very ill so it will take a little while before he can drive it. We really just want to give him something back."
Prices for the motor are between £3,000 to £10,000 for a second hand model. All of the money raised will go towards buying the car as well as insurance, fuel and maintenance.
The boys plan to keep the vehicle when Jay is no longer here as it will be "extremely sentimental" and the last memory of their dad.
