Scots face 99 Flake shortage due to 'unexpected demand' for ice cream treat during lockdown

Scotland is facing a shortage of 99 Flakes as the demand for the tasty treat has surged during lockdown.

With recent reopening centred around outdoor activities, many of us have been taking to parks and beer gardens across the country.

And the soft-serve ice cream with the crumbly chocolate snack on top has become a firm favourite across the UK due to this it would appear.

There are now fears that this could have impact on the stock levels of 99 Flakes across the country.

Cadbury owner Mondelez said that it had not expected the recent surge in demand.

A spokesperson for the firm told the Daily Record : “We are seeing a recent increase in demand for our Cadbury’s 99 Flake in the UK and Ireland that we had not expected.

“The product is still available to order and we’re continuing to work closely with our customers.”

The coronavirus pandemic has seen supermarket shelves stripped bare of toilet roll and other essential items.

And while there are well more than 99 problems emerging from the health crisis, the shortage of 99 Flakes is one of the least predictable ones.

People have taken to social media to air their concerns at this devastating news.

One person simply asked: “Have we not suffered enough?”

Another wrote: “Okay, I can handle a shortage of many thing. Cadbury Flake isn’t one of them. How am I meant to have a 99 without them.”
