Scots Epstein victim says 'justice' done as Ghislaine Maxwell faces 70 years in jail

A Scots victim of Jeffrey Epstein has said she felt "vindicated" and "completely overwhelmed" after a New York jury convicted Ghislaine Maxwell of helping his child sex trafficking ring.

We told how Sarah Ransome has written a memoir about her time spent in the clutches of the shamed financier, who died in prison in 2019.

Called Silenced No More: Surviving My Journey to Hell and Back, it has been released in the United States to coincide with the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell.

Sarah’s father is Lord Gordon Macpherson, the second baron of Drumochter, and she moved from South Africa when she was a teenager to live with her aunt and uncle in the Highlands.

She had urged earlier this month that Maxwell spends her life behind bars after 'torturing' her.

Now CBS reports she feels 'justice' has been served and said: "I never thought this day would ever happen.

"For me it's really important to thank the prosecutors and to thank the four incredibly brave, beautiful women that testified because without them, without their truth, we would never have got Ghislaine behind bars.

"We would never have had this verdict. So yes, this is justice. But this is just the beginning."

"It's been such a long, hard journey to get here," she added. "So yesterday's decision, I think, will take a little while to sink in.

"But the thought of Ghislaine spending the rest of her life behind bars, you know, you must understand she destroyed so many hundreds, if not thousands, of other women, young women and children.

"You know, so I'm pleased that she will never — she'll never be out again ever to hurt anybody else."

Last night the jury in Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex-trafficking case reached a verdict of guilty on five of six counts.

The British socialite was convicted of helping American financier Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls.

The 60-year-old was accused of recruiting and grooming four teenagers for Epstein between 1994 and 2004.

Her former boyfriend Epstein killed himself in 2019 in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial on sex abuse charges of his own.

Maxwell could be sentenced to up to 70 years in prison for the six counts she faced in this trial. She also faces two perjury counts that will be tried separately.
