Scots enjoy a rare 'White Easter' as pictures show heavy snow fall in some areas

Scots enjoyed a rare 'White Easter' today as snow arrived just hours after a heatwave left the country.

Earlier we told how Scots were bracing for Easter blizzards after a heavy snow weather warning was issued by the Met Office.

A yellow alert predicted thick snow to land on northern parts of the country from 6pm - and this evening pictures have emerged of the white stuff arriving in the Shetland Islands.

At Lower Voe, on the west side of the mainland, local Jen Stoat pictured blizzards while out for a walk on the hills.

Meanwhile, CCTV pictures from the area showed the beautiful island blanketed in snow at around 5.30pm on Easter Sunday.

Across Scotland temperatures are set to plummet to lows of around -4C during the early hours of Monday - a stark contrast to the highs of 16C reported in parts of the country this weekend.

Meanwhile, strong winds from the north and northwest will see gusts rise to highs of 60mph during this period.

Aberdeenshire, Perth and Kinross, the Highlands and Islands and Argyll and Bute are among the areas expected to be mostly impacted by the adverse weather.

Forecasters have predicted as much as six inches of the white stuff to land over a 30-hour flurry of wintry conditions.

Experts warn that the conditions could cause disruption on the roads and to public transport services.
