Scots e-comm model takes centre stage as online face of internet fashion firms

With online clothing sales thriving, the modelling industry is booming and Mia Brown has become one of its biggest stars.

The 22-year-old geography graduate, who is the face of internet retailing giant Quiz, has earned the title of Scotland’s top e-comm model.

Mia, from Dumbarton, is one of Britain’s most recognisable online faces after starring in huge campaigns for firms such as outdoor clothing company Trespass and fake tan brand Utan.

The former Glasgow University student, who was scouted on Instragram by Scotland’s top agency Colours, is delighted to be taking centre stage in the bright new world of e-comm modelling.

Mia, one of the agency’s most in-demand models, said: “When you think of modelling, it’s usually catwalks and TV adverts that spring to mind but e-comm is huge and growing by the day.

“I, like many people, do the majority of my shopping online, so it makes sense that modelling for online clothing brands has become massive.

“I shoot once a month for Quiz and was the face of their Halloween and Christmas campaigns last year. Thanks to that exposure, jobs for other brands have been rolling in.”

She added: “I’m glad I’ve found my niche and that it is a new environment that keeps on growing and shows no signs of slowing down.

“I modelled part-time when I was studying for my degree at uni but, after I graduated last June, I became so busy I decided to make it my full-time job.”

Mia, who is also signed to London agency Body, was 14 when she was told she should think about giving modelling a go.

She said: “I was doing a family photoshoot and the make-up artist told me I had a good look and should give modelling a go.

“I attended an open call at an agency and was signed on the spot but I didn’t get much work so I moved to another agency and again work was pretty scarce.

“Then, two years ago, Colours scouted me on Instragram and signed me up as an e-comm model and I haven’t looked back since.”

The former Our Lady & St Patrick’s High School pupil added: “My family have been very supportive of my modelling. At first, they couldn’t understand why I had spent four years studying for a degree I wasn’t going to use but, once they saw how much work I was getting, they were content I had made the right decision.”

Mia, like all the other models in the industry, is experiencing a lull during the coronavirus crisis but is hoping to move to Manchester or London when the social distancing rules are relaxed.

She said: “At the moment, I’m upping my Instagram presence. I’ve got 10,000 followers and I’ve noticed the more I put up, the more work I get.”

Mark Conlin, of Colours, said: “Mia has a glamorous and curvaceous look, which is perfect for e-comm modelling. She is a huge talent.”
