Scots drivers urged to use caution as wind warnings in place for major bridges

Motorists are being warned to use caution today as high winds are expected to affect driving conditions in the east and north of the country.

The alerts, from the government agency Traffic Scotland, cover major routes including the A9 Kessock Bridge in Inverness.

"Caution High Winds" warnings are forecast to be in place from 3pm today until 9am tomorrow.

Other bridges on the same route further north, the Cromarty and Dornoch bridges, are expected to have the similar warnings in place covering the same timescale.

The A87 Skye Bridge is also expected to have "caution" warnings from 6pm through to 9am tomorrow.

The A9000 Forth Bridge could see warnings in place from midday to 6pm tonight, with a 40mph speed limit in place.

But the main M90 Queensferry Crossing is currently clear of any anticipated restrictions.

Meanwhile, a lane of the A90 southbound in Dundee has been closed because of a road accident this morning.

It happened near the A90-A929 junction at Forfar Road and Claverhouse Road at around 6.15am.

Traffic Scotland said: "Lane 1 of (2) on the A90(S), Kingsway at Forfar Road, Dundee, is currently restricted due to a road traffic incident. Road users should approach with caution."

There is no word yet on any casualties.
