Terrifying video shows Scots driver swerve to avoid lorry towing McGills bus in near-miss

A Scots motorist has described the terrifying moment a lorry towing a bus drove down the wrong side of the road, head-on towards him.

David Cooper said he had to swerve out of the way of the recovery vehicle after it cut out in front of traffic at a roundabout.

He said the M8 Recovery driver almost caused a head-on collision during the incident on Sunday, June 11.

The incident happened on the B787 in Johnstone near to the McGills bus depot, while David was in his BMW with his partner around 1.30pm.

Dashcam footage appears to show the recovery vehicle driving through the roundabout at speed, and cutting across from the right hand side to the left of the road, reports Glasgow Live.

David: "It went the wrong way on the roundabout and drove at speed up my side of the carriageway. It continued and didn't slow down. I had to break, pull in and hit the kerb. The camera view shows that it was just a hair's width away from hitting me before swapping onto the other side.

"I don't know if it was just easier for him but the speed he was going was just ridiculous. It gave us a massive fright. I later pulled up and sat for 15 minutes because I couldn't believe that just happened. It was terrifying. My car alerted me to say there was the chance of a head-on collision, it flashes and started to automatically slow down."

McGills and M8 Recovery have both been contacted for comment.
