A woman has been airlifted to hospital with '"serious" injuries following a horror car crash on a Scots road.
The two car smash took place on the A941 just south of Rothes this afternoon.
Emergency services raced to the scene after a Blue Peugeot 208 and a Black Peugeot 2008 collided.
The 208 slid down an embankment and the fire service had to cut the roof off to extricate the driver from the wreck.
She was taken by air ambulance to hospital in Aberdeen after sustaining "serious" wounds.
The road was also shut down for around three hours but has since reopened.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called around 12.20pm on Friday, 12 March, to a report of a two car crash on the A931 south of Rothes.
"One woman has been taken to hospital in Aberdeen with serious injuries.
"The road re-opened around 3pm."
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue service said: "We received the call at 12.16pm from Police Scotland.
"We mobilised two pumps, one from Rothes and one from Dufftown.
"We assisted with rescuing one casualty extricating her from a vehicle.
"Two sets of cuttings gear, protection and chocks and blocks were used"
