Scots driver accidentally plunges into harbour as emergency services rush to the scene

Emergency services raced to an incident in Nairn today after a man drove into the harbour.

Around 11am a man is understood to have plunged into the water in his Citroën C3 car as police, the coastguard, the fire service and the ambulance service all rushed to the scene.

The driver managed to get himself out of the water but was taken to Raigmore Hospital after being treated by paramedics at the scene.

The car could be seen sinking in the harbour after the incident.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We were called by police at 11.01am and we went to assist.

"The person was out of the water when we got there and we did not need to rescue the person as they rescued themselves.

"We assisted to make the scene safe and left at 11.38am."

It is understood that the incident was an accident.

The car was later pictured being hoisted from the water.
