Scots Drag Race UK winner Lawrence Chaney taking over Radio 1's airwaves for Drag Day

Drag Race UK winner Lawrence Chaney is taking over Radio 1's airwaves with fellow Scot Arielle Free as part of the BBC station's Drag Day.

Lawrence, who slayed the RuPaul show, will join others in the line up including Bimini Bon-Boulash and Tayce for the takeover on August 21.

Showcasing the best of Britain's drag scene, the day will kick off with Tayce and Clara Amfo from 7am-10.30am, before our own reigning champ Lawrence takes over with Arielle Free until 1pm.

Bimini and Dean McCullough are then on until 4pm, and Jodie Harsh and Charlie Hedges get the party going until 7pm with Radio 1's Dance Anthems.

Lawrence said of the chance to present on Radio 1: "I can't wait to join my fellow Scot Arielle to fulfil a childhood dream of mine as a wee girl from Helensburgh to host a show on national Radio 1."

Bimini added: "I used to listen to Radio 1 every day when I was a teenager.

"I would be listening to Grimmy and Fearne and saying to myself one day I would be hosting a show!

"Absolute dream come true and I can’t wait to get in that studio and have a laugh with Dean! You’re gonna have to drag me out of there!

"I am so excited to be getting the nation up and their days started," Tayce said. "I can't wait to work with Clara and bring some Tayce antics to Radio 1."

Jodie Harsh added: "I am beyond excited to host a major dance party on Radio 1 with Charlie Hedges, rounding up such an incredible day of queens on the king of radio stations. I promise it will be the ultimate drag dance extravaganza. Get your heels and your wigs at the ready!

Aled Haydn Jones, Head of Radio 1, said: "Our young audience love drag culture so it’s right we celebrate and showcase the very best of UK drag.

"It will be a day filled with fun and entertainment and also a chance for our listeners to hear a different side to these amazing UK drag queens."

RuPaul's Drag Race UK series 3 will stream on BBC Three (via iPlayer) in the UK and on WOW Presents Plus in the US
