Scots dog walkers urged to be vigilant after brick with nail in it found in park

Dog walkers in Grangemouth are urged to be extra careful when out and about with their pooches.

It comes after wooden blocks, with nails sticking out of them, were found in Rannoch and Zetland parks over the weekend.

Locals think they have been deliberately buried under leaves and in long grass to cause injury.

An animal charity is asking anyone who finds such items to contact them.

Scottish SPCA chief superintendent Mike Flynn said: "We haven’t received any reports regarding harmful materials being left in Rannoch or Zetland Park in Grangemouth.

"But if someone believes they have been left there to deliberately harm an animal then this should be reported to us or Police Scotland.

"Knowingly trying to injure or kill an animal is an offence punishable by law. These items also pose a threat to people, especially children playing in the parks.

"As always we ask owners to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.

"Incidents can also be reported to the local authority who have responsibility for the parks or to Police Scotland on 101."
