Scots dog owner warning after pup develops sepsis from toxic substance at Hamilton beauty spot

A Scots dog owner has issued a stark warning after his dog developed sepsis from a toxic substance while on a walk at a beauty spot in Hamilton.

Fifteen-week-old Alaskan Malamute Nova had been out on a local walk at Earnock Nature Trail in South Lanarkshire when she is thought to have ingested, sniffed or drank something toxic.

Her owners, who run Lead The Way – Pet Services, a dog walking business were quick to act and rushed Nova to the vets for treatment.

Her owners were left devastated when she fell seriously ill and was close to death.

They issued a warning on their business Facebook page urging others to be vigilant.

The couple also retraced their steps looking for anything suspicious in the woodland but so far, have not found anything.

The post reads: “Stressful few days in our wee family. Little Nova ended up seriously sick, close to death if not for quick responses on our part.

“She had ingested or sniffed or drank something which was toxic which gave her Sepsis.

“This post isn’t for sympathy but more for awareness to everyone with a dog.

“You never know what’s on the ground and our dogs are so curious they just nibble or eat whatever smells tasty.

“We are very vigilant with Nova as she’s so young and although she’s spent days with the vets we have no idea what caused her condition.

“There have been a lot of posts about areas where there have been foods with poison and this is very concerning to everyone.

“Our local walk is Earnock Nature Trail which we have retraced to check for anything suspicious.

“I’m just asking you be aware of your dog’s surroundings and not end up in our shoes.

“Thankfully due to lots of care and attention from the vets, help and support from close friends Nova is now back home with us and on the mend.”
