Scots dog owner's fury after puppy ate human faeces dumped by river

A Scots dog owner is fuming after her puppy accidentally ate human faeces found alongside a river.

Ashleigh Elvin is worried for her 10-month-old pup, Bonnie's, health after she gobbled the human waste near the River Esk in Musselburgh, East Lothian.

Reeling Ashleigh said this isn't the first time she and her beloved retriever made the stomach-churning discovery.

Anti-social behaviour, littering and graffiti have previously been reported in the area, according to Edinburgh Live.

Ashleigh had to pull Bonnie back on her lead after she spotted her sniffing out a pile of human faeces on the ground, to then learn she'd accidentally eaten it.

Seriously concerned over the risk to both Bonnie and other dogs' health, she said: "The first time down at the grove was a few weeks ago on a Sunday morning around 8am and the second time was just this morning, again early at about 8:30 am.

"A number of times I’ve also found soiled wipes and tissues along the water front area.

"There was a third incident but it was located up in the graveyard by Saint Michaels Parish Church.

"The grove area has been a topic of conversation recently with benches being burnt down, graffiti everywhere and loads of litter being left.

"Just the other day I had to grab a curry soaked tray out of my dogs mouth.

"Crisp packets or carrier bags are one thing but human waste is completely unacceptable.

"Not only is it foul but there’s a real risk of her getting ill."
