Scots dog owner in warning after pooch slits paw on broken glass for FIFTH time

A furious dog owner has hit out at callous yobs after his dog slashed it’s paws on broken glass in Clydebank.

Ross Gray was walking his nine-year-old rescue dog, Cathy when she slit her paw on smashed glass near a primary school in the Cochno area, at 5pm on Wednesday night.

The 27-year-old supermarket worker was left panicked when he heard the pooch cry out in pain and saw blood dripping from her paw.

He had to rush Cathy to the vets for emergency treatment which resulted in a £127 vet bill.

Ross has slammed selfish yobs who smash bottles on busy paths that children and dog walkers often use.

He said: “It was on a path near the Cochno area in Clydebank just off the primary school pitches.

"I saw the blood I knew she had hurt herself.

"I got her to lay down and realised she had a deep cut with a large shard of glass in it.

"I carried her to the vet and they tried to glue the wound but it wouldn't close over because it was so deep.

"The vet had to staple her paw together to knit the wound.

"She squealed twice loudly while they were treating her, it was horrible.

“Her treatment cost £127 but that was the cheapest I've had so far, these injuries are usually even more expensive.”

It’s not the first time the staffy-lab cross has been injured while walking in the area.

Ross claims this is the fifth time the pup has injured herself on broken glass since he collected her from Milton Rehoming Centre four years ago.

The furious dog owner said litter louts and a lack of care taking in the Clydebank is a serious hazard to those using the area.

Ross said he feared his dog would suffer more injuries and worries the same thing could happen to a child.

He added: “I use that path and the area around it almost daily, it’s really popular not just for dog walkers but parents, kids, and couples.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if she got hurt again, I’d even expect it.

“It is especially bad in the summer because that's when people are out drinking and it is more popular with crowds.

“Whoever is responsible for the area needs to do more and try to maintain it so it doesn’t get this bad.

“More effort and attention should be going into making sure three isn’t glass lying everywhere.

“You can’t watch every single step the dog takes though especially when they are running way ahead.

Cathy is now on a course of antibiotics but she will be stuck inside for a few weeks to recover.

He continued: “Cathy is just stuck on the couch now and keeps kicking her leg so it is annoying her.

“She gets fed up when she can’t go out for a walk but I can’t let her out with her cut.

“She is struggling to even get up on the couch now and we live on a top story flat so it is difficult.

“She has got painkillers and antibiotics to help her.”
