Scots doctor hits out at Donald Trump and says 'leave Covid to the scientists'

US President Donald Trump should stop trying to politicise coronavirus and instead listen to science according to a leading Scots doctor.

Following the news that Trump and his wife Melania have the virus, David Chung politicians have made the mistake of using “politics and ideology to answer what is a scientific question”.

Chung, a former chairman of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, said: “Whatever your politics may be, our opinions of our behaviours and the virus is irrelevant.

"The virus will behave the way it does, it is not confined by politics. Science is truth.

“How the virus behaves and how to fight it is a scientific question, not a question for politics and ideology and if we try to solve these problems without science, that is where mistakes are made.

“Anti-mask rallies have made it politicised and polarised but this is a condition that can only be solved by scientific principles rather than a political powerpoint.

“I think that is a danger all of us are facing here in the UK, even in Scotland, letting political associations influence what should be scientific decisions.”

Chung continued that Covid-19 is a new virus which scientists are still learning about, but has not changed because of a right of wrong opinion.

He added: “That doesn’t make science bad. We have been wrong about things in history but eventually we get to the truth.”

“Politics is not science.

“Scientists have a scientific answer and they believe they are telling the truth. Ideology is not the same.

“A lot of people don’t understand what science really is.

"They think it is like the law or other things based on arguments but in its purest form science is unarguably right or wrong in the way the rest of life isn’t.”
