Scots DJ George Bowie launches GBXercise videos to keep people active during lockdown

Scots DJ George Bowie is kick-starting the nation into action at the start of the first full week of coronavirus lockdown.

Not content with being one of the most successful media personalities in the country, he's now taking on a new role of personal trainer for the masses.

The radio host is inspiring people up and down Scotland to get moving from this morning, as he launches a GBXercise video to keep fans active.

The legendary presenter, who has fronted Clyde 1's Breakfast show for more than two decades, is hugely popular thanks to his Friday and Saturday night Dance Anthems shows on the station and today will use the iconic sounds to keep people active.

The club night host also dedicates most of his time off the airwaves to his regular events at nightspots across the country and has been moving the party to his own balcony at his west end home since last week, where he performed two live sets which were streamed to more than 300,000 viewers across the globe.

George told the Daily Record he wanted to: "Lift spirits of everyone because we know how demented people are cooped up inside."

George, who is still on air with Clyde every morning with Clyde as he's considered an 'essential worker' by the government', can be seen at the start of the workout video on his balcony near Glasgow's Botanic Gardens alongside fitness instructor Nona Cabasa, a champion bikini bodybuilder who has sang on a host of GBX tracks.

The 30-minute routine is sure to put anyone taking part through their paces and will return every week.

And he's promised to return every week that the UK remains in lockdown.

The 50-year-old has also pledged to play more gigs live on Facebook from his balcony at home as clubs, pubs and restaurants remain closed amid the health pandemic.

He told us after last Thursday's balcony gig: "I just wanted to lift spirits and bring people together. I'm gutted that in the current situation, we can't get out to the clubs for the moment, I'll really miss it, but in the grand scale of things it's nothing. If people are safe, that's all that matters, so this is another way of having some fun, which we need."
